Udupi, May 7: Karnataka Governor, H R Bharadwaj, inaugurated the newly built Justice K S Hegdde Centenary Building of Mulky Sundararama Shetty English Medium School, Shirva, on Thursday May 6.
Addressing the audience on the occasion, he said that Karnataka is in the forefront in upholding the Indian culture of unity in diversity. “Educational institutions happen to be the invaluable assets of the country. People of the coastal districts have since long, built their lives on the foundation of sound education. The twin-districts are the hubs of knowledge,” he noted. Observing that both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts have witnessed educational revolution backed by strong methods of teaching and with the coming up of international level educational institutions, he said, because of the importance given by the people here to education, both these districts are moving on the path of progress.
The Governor felt that English as a language, is necessary for enabling the people to expose themselves to healthy competition globally in the modern society, and to interact with others at the international level. “Our children need to learn English along with their mother tongue and the official language of the country,” he opined.
Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde, presided. In his address, he stressed that linguistic divides and disputes over language should never come in the smooth living of human beings and their growth. He said, the coastal districts have laid stress on quality education with contribution from different communities, and wanted the concerned to continue to make efforts to keep pace with the newer challenges and maintain high quality of education.
State home minister, Dr V S Acharya, who was the chief guest, felt that education is the answer for the challenges for creating supportive environment for societal progress, noting that contribution of private sector for the growth of education in the two districts has been immense.
NRI entrepreneur, Padma Shri Dr B R Shetty, inaugurated Kutyar Kanyana Bhoja Shetty Block, while another NRI entrepreneur, Kalattur Shekhar B Shetty, Abu Dhabi, inaugurated Adve Jayaram Shetty Block.
Shirva Vidyavardhaka Sangh president, N Vinaya Hegde, welcomed. S Nityanand Hegde, president of the school committee, delivered introductory address. School convener, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, proposed vote of thanks. Prafullata Bharadwaj, wife of the Governor, was present.
