New Pro-VCs appointed at Manipal University

Manipal, May 8: Manipal University (MU) has appointed two new Pro Vice Chancellors for a period of three years. In a communication (dated 6th May) from MU Chancellor Dr Ramdas M Pai to the senior officials and heads of institutions of Manipal University, it is stated that Dr H Vinod Bhat and Dr K Ramnarayan are appointed as Pro Vice Chancellors of the University with immediate effect in pursuance with the decision of the Board of Management.
Dr H Vinod Bhat, a Professor of Community Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal was the Registrar – International Programs and Executive Director – Planning at the University since 2008. Dr Vinod Bhat has previously been the Registrar of Manipal University as well as Medical Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer of the Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

Prior to his new appointment, Dr K Ramnarayan, a Professor of Pathology, was the Dean of Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC) – Manipal Campus. MMMC is a unique Joint Venture twinning program in Medicine approved by the Governments of Malaysia and India.
With the elevation of Dr Ramnarayan to the post of Pro-VC, Dr Ullas Kamath will take over as Dean and Dr Annamma Kurien will be the new Associate Dean of MMMC-Manipal Campus.
In the meanwhile, Manipal University is holding its Summer Convocation at the Dr TMA Pai International Convention Centre in Mangalore this evening at 6 PM. The summer convocation is especially held for students of Health Sciences. This year 368 Undergraduate and Postgraduate students along with 12 PhDs have registered for the Convocation. MU conducts the main convocation in November at its home campus annually.
Lt. Gen. (Retd) Dr J R Bhardwaj, currently Member, National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India will be the Chief Guest for the function. Chancellor Dr Ramdas Pai, Pro Chancellor Dr HS Ballal, Vice Chancellor Dr Raj P Warrier, Registrar Dr GK Prabhu and Registrar ( Evaluations) Dr H N Udayashankar will be present along with all the Heads of constituent institutions of Manipal University.
