Bengaluru, Nov 13: Veteran journalist and author Ravi Belagere, who had the uncanny quality of taking on well-known controversial leaders and had earned the name, 'literary giant', is no more. This news has come as a shock particularly for Kannada viewers and readers.

Heart attack took away the life of Ravi Belagere (62) in the early hours of Friday November 13. At around 12 midnight on Thursday, he suffered heart attack at the city office of 'Hi Bangalore' publication. He was immediately admitted to Apollo Hospital but his life could not be saved.

Ravi Belagere was born at Ballari on March 15, 1958. He worked in several aspects of journalism. His special talent was in crime-related investigative stories. He wrote innumerable books about the world of criminals. 'Sarpa Sambandha', 'Bheematheerada Hantakaru', 'Nee Hinga Nodabyada', 'Nanna D Company', and ''Raj Leela Vinoda' are some of the popularly known works of Belarere.

After his education at Ballari, Belagere started his professional life as a lecturer. He then began to work for 'Lankesh Patrike'. In 1995, he introduced 'Hi Bangalore' weekly. Being the presenter of 'Crime Diary' programme, he had become extensively popular. A bi-weekly, 'O Manase' instituted by him, which targeted youngsters also had earned the goodwill of the people.

Ravi Belagere had worked for Kannada publications like 'Karmaveera', 'Kasturi', and 'Samyukta Karnataka'. He founded 'Bhavana Audio', 'Bhavana Publication', and 'Prrarthana School'. He also was on the small screen, and his style of presentation had earned him many admirers. He also had taken part in the last season of 'Bigg Boss' reality TV show.

Arrangements have been made to keep the mortal remains of the popular journalist at Prarthana School here from 9 am on Friday November 13 to enable people to pay their last respects.
