Mangalore, May 9: The additional Rs 100 crore grant being received by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will be utilized to provide infrastructure facilities such as bus stops and roads in the city within the end of the year, said district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar.

Minister was speaking after inaugurating a modern hi-tech bus stand backed by new concepts here in Balmatta on Saturday May 8, put up jointly by GeeDee Advertising and Marketting and MCC. Palemar said that within the next year the city will be dotted with bus stops and footpaths. The facilities provided as donation to the MCC will be utilized for public. The district administration will take precautionary measures to avoid any problems during the monsoon, he said.

Mangalore south MLA N Yogish Bhat, deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj, mayor Rajani Dugganna and MCC commissioner Dr N Vijayaprakash among others were present. Roshan Baliga, managing director of GeeDee Advertising and Marketting, said that the bus stand will be maintained on behalf of the MCC by his firm.

The bus stand is equipped with comfortable seating arrangement for the commuters, special lounge for the senior citizens, clean drinking water, and toilet facilities. This also boasts to be the largest bus stand in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, having been spread over an area of 2,200 sq ft.

Sudhir, USA. being in US i think more than o=any one you should know the meaning of Hi- Tech. If you dont let me explain to you. High on technology. Well for a bus stand high technology includes electronic bus timing displays. Bus timing alerts. Comfortable seating with climate and dust protection. Proper access for physically disabled people (ramps for wheel chairs etc) and the list goes on.Does this bus stop qualify in any of these areas mentioned to be called hi tech?
Secondly the most important aspect, this is not a bus stop its a covered foot path we call bus stop. What about the pedestrians who use this footpath. If people are crowded in this hi tech bus stop will they not be forced to walk on the road and expose themselves to the traffic?
Sudhir, why are you so narrow minded. I am not attacking your BJP or its ministers. I am crtitcising the city planners and the ruling government which unfortunately for you happens to be BJP. Its important that we dont become passionate about a particular party. Its important that we criticse the bad and appreciate the good

Seems like people are just happy to blame BJP no matter what it does
    Kiran:

"Its time city corporation does works that are benficial to the city and not waste public money on projects that do not serve the purpose they are intended for."

Can you please enlighten us what corporation has to do instead?

    Surendra:

"toilet is not available in balmatta area that is indian standard."

If you remove your blinders and carefully read the article you will find this line "The bus stand is equipped with comfortable seating arrangement for the commuters, special lounge for the senior citizens, clean drinking water, and toilet facilities."

    Hamid:
"they are calling this is their development program and HI-tech construction."

If you read the article, the term Hi-tech is no where attributed to the minister said. The term hi-tech can only be attributed to Daijiworld news correspondents.

    Hamid:
"Really their effort required like, construction of flyovers,"

If you go thro the Daiji world archives you will find that Palemar is also concerned abt flyover whose construction was stopped by NHAI.

    Sujith

"How it is possible largest bus stand in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, having been spread over an area of 2,200 sq ft.???
    "
A logical answer would all other bus stand in Undivided DK are of smaller size

The Bus-bays should be marked at important points throughout the city by the Town Planning and MCC officials. Behind these bays there should have the Bus-Q-Shelters with revenue-generating Advertisement-areas, Drinking-water facilities & Self-cleaning, Space-saving Cubicle-structured Urinals. The contribution to build such modern Bus-Q-Shelters should come from the corporate bodies.

Can any one explain what is hi tech about this bus stop? It is just a footpath covered with a roof and a bench. I dont think it will provide any shelter to the people using it from rain. Its time city corporation does works that are benficial to the city and not waste public money on projects that do not serve the purpose they are intended for. In fact converting this stretch of the footpath into a bus stand will force people walking on the foothpath to the road and there by cause a safety hazard
