Udupi, Nov 13: The festival of lights Deepavali was celebrated in Mother Theresa Hall of St Mary’s English Medium (CBSE) School Udupi, Kannarpady on Friday, November 13, 2020.

The celebration began with a traditional welcome of Tulunadu to the principal Fr Johnson Sequeira and Rita Quadros, vice-principal of the School. The formal programme began with lighting lamp and diyas by principal, vice-principal and staff coordinators followed by invoking blessings from almighty through a prayer song by the teachers. Bhaskar Kotian welcomed the gathering by hoping to see the light from the darkness spread by Covid-19 throughout the world.

Amratha Shetty spoke about the importance of the celebration of the festival. Celebration of Deepavali is universal and there are scientific and mythological reasons for the celebration, she said. She beautifully narrated the history of the three days celebration of the festival through stories. As a part of the celebration, Bhaskar Kotian gave a demo of inviting and welcoming Bali Chakravarthi on the feast day. Group singing and dance by teachers’ added colours to the celebration.

Fr Johnson in his message said, "Deepavali is a festival which brings light, happiness and knowledge. Light has its own importance in each and everyone’s life. We teachers must bring light into the lives of our students through our life. He wished that this Diwali may bring light to the homes, hearts and souls of each one and lead us to success always.

Nayana proposed the vote of thanks and Rajashree co-ordinated the programme very well. The celebration was very unique and the whole St Mary’s family cherished the moments following social distancing. The whole celebration was superbly planned by the principal and well organised and executed by the vice-principal.
