Mangaluru, Nov 13: “Degree and postgraduate classes will begin in the district on November 17,” said additional deputy commissioner M J Roopa.

She was speaking after presiding over a meeting held in the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday about guidelines concerning the resumption of activities in the private universities, government, technical diploma, aided and unaided colleges.

“The groups of students should be separated and only 50% of students should be permitted in classes. Online classes should be conducted for the remaining students. The concerned teachers, students and staff should undergo compulsory Covid tests three days prior to the reopening of classes. The concerned should attend the classes only if they are issued negative reports. The phone number 1077 should be contacted in the event of issues,” she said.

“It is not compulsory that students should attend classes. Those who do not want to attend classes can study online. Thermal scanning and sanitization facilities should be provided at the points of entry and exit in the colleges. Teaching and non-teaching staff and students should wear mandatory masks. Teaching or non-teaching staff with Corona symptoms should not be allowed entry in the college premises. The building, main entrance, toilets, all the rooms, furniture and stationery should be sanitized every day. Students should bring food and drinking water from their houses. Students should not share their pens, books, laptop or other items with others. Library or canteens should not be opened.”

“Spitting in college premises should be banned. Teachers should install the Aarogya Setu app on their smartphones. The guidelines about Covid should be distributed in pamphlets and displayed on notice boards. Students can obtain bus passes online on the Seva Sindhu web portal. Teachers, officers, staff and students should carry mandatory identity cards,” she said.
