Mangalore: Karnataka Coast - Light Showers in Many Places, Heavy Rain in Others

Mangalore, May 10: Rain ranging from light shower to heavy downpour, was witnessed in many parts of the twin-districts and Kasargod on Sunday May 9. Lightning inflicted some damages to people and properties.

Light rains were experienced in the city, Bantwal, Sullia, Moodbidri, Kadaba, Udupi, Manipal, Brahmavar, Byndoor, Shirur, and several areas in Karkala taluk. Some places got rains in the afternoon, some others in the evening, and many places at night.

Heavy rain, thunder and lighting, were experienced in Sullia on Sunday evening for about an hour. Power supply to most parts of the taluk was cut off. Kasargod district also got normal rains on Sunday.

The wife and child of Rudraiah Acharya from Mudrady Uppala near Hebri in Karkala taluk were injured due to lightning. The child was admitted into Manipal Hospital for treatment. Lightning struck the home of Sundari Shetty in Kalmale near Kelinja near Vittal on Saturday evening, leaving the roof of the house severely damaged and burning down the electrical wiring of the house. As the family members were in a neighbouring house at the time, they escaped unhurt.

The meteorological department has predicted rains in the coast during the next 24 hours.
