Mangalore, May 10: The Sri Rama Sene Karnataka members staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Monday May 10 opposing arrest of state convenor Prasad Attavar and the alleged atrocities made by the state government against the sene members.
Sene chief Pramod Mutalik, who was present at the protest lambasted government over the treatment meted out to the sene workers. Addressing the protestors he said that the sene members were being arrested on flimsy grounds and tortured mentally and physically by the police on the behest of the state. "It is a ploy of the government to subdue the strength of groups fighting to safeguard the religion and culture of the nation." he alleged.
Further, the protestors alleged that the police are meting out torture towards the family members of the arrested. The arrest of Prasad Attavar for alleged connection with the underworld is one of the gross atrocities against the sene members, they pointed out.
The members demanded the central government to take suitable action against the state government and thereby provide justice. They also submitted a memorandum with these demands to the central home ministry through the deputy commissioner.
