Halappa Jailed till May 15, Still in Hospital

Bangalore, May 10 (IANS) Former Karnataka minister Haratalu Halappa, arrested Sunday in a rape case, was Monday sent to jail till May 15 but he is likely to stay put in a hospital in Shimoga where he was admitted after he complained of chest pain, officials said.

"Halappa is suffering from diabetics and blood pressure and will be in hospital for two-three days more," a spokesperson of the government McGann Hospital told reporters in Shimoga, about 270 km from here.

Halappa, who resigned May 2 as food and civil supplies minister after the rape charges, surrendered to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) at Shimoga Sunday and was arrested after about four hours of interrogation.

A court in Shimoga sent him to jail for a day Sunday. Soon after being taken to a jail in the town he complained of chest pain and was admitted to McGann Hospital.

On Monday, the court extended his jail stay till May 15, though the CID had sought his custody for 14 days.

Halappa, 49, has been accused of raping Chandravathi, the wife of his friend Venkatesh Murthy, at Shimoga on the night of Nov 26-27, 2009.

The CID served a notice on Halappa May 6 to appear before its inquiry team by May 10 for interrogation.

The Shimoga police had registered the criminal case against him May 4 on a complaint by Chandravathi a day earlier.

    McGann Hospital Shimoga,

Though we all know that Halappa is faking it. I would earnestly request you to AVOID sending in your lady nurses to treat him. lest, he might try to rape those poor nurses. This man is on heat and his libido has reached its peak. Hence i would suggest that he is chained at all times.

Dear Mr. Parthasarary, How true your observations. When these culprits are apprehended, the first thing they claim to have is a chest pain and get admitted in the hospital. The heart which was not functioning while committing the crime is suddenly forced to function when they are arrested hence this heart problem I feel. Our judiciery system is also very slack which takes heed of all these fake claims and wastes the hard earned money of the tax payers into such silly issues.

It is really surpriring that all alleged RAPISTS, CRIMINALS, LOOTERS, ROBBERS, BOOTLEGGERS, MONEY LAUNDERERS suffer from Chest Pain once they are face to face with police and investigating agencies. The chest which can withstand all sort of anti-social, illegal, illicit, nefarious, condemnable, criminal, heinous, horrendous and horrible acts with utmost comfort, pleasure and bliss becomes atonce so weak once it senses the smell of IAs. People want to know whether it is legal-advise affected/medically supported chest pain or real chest pain. Even a YOGI who has strong health preserved by Yoga, Pranayama gets afflicted with chest pain.

I think everyone would agree that these rogues should be checked thoroughly by an impartial team of medicos to establish the truth of their illness and if found FEIGNING should be treated as FIRST RATE criminals with least mercy and humanity. Shamelessly, they indulge in so many activities and yet they are certified as SAATHVIKS by their supporters and protectors. Law should take its real independant own course and they should not be allowed to escape any sort punishment. Sucvh people must be prohibited for life from contesting polls for any post and they must be secluded from the society. Till such time, the so called Chests would be playing havoc according to their own whims, fancies and convenience.
