New Delhi, Nov 20 (IANS): The Congress Central Election Authority (CEA) headed by Madhusudan Mistry is preparing to conduct digital elections for the post of party president in case of a contest.

For digital elections, voters of the electoral college are being given a digital card with all the details embedded into it.

Once the CEA is prepared it will seek the CWC's nod to conduct elections.

The electoral college is the same as it was in 2017 when Rahul Gandhi was elected President unopposed. The Congress has started the process of elections after 23 leaders wrote Sonia Gandhi for reforms and election in the party.

Sources in CEA say that the authority has received the AICC members list from all the states except two.

Party leaders said the support for the "revival" has swelled up to more than 50, as the chorus for immediate reforms has latched on to the imagination of all those who want what's best for Congress.

The dissenting leaders want fresh organisational elections from block to CWC level to rejuvenate the cadres. The party's central election authority CEA has met twice to set the ball rolling for elections, and has sought the list of the AICC members but the group of 23 leaders wants that process of AICC members elections should be done first as the old system of nomination should be done away with, and the election of the party president should be done only after new AICC members are elected.

The group is pushing for elections in CWC, and revival of parliamentary board in the party which is defunct.

The group of 23 leaders had written to interim party chief Sonia Gandhi in August, seeking a complete overhaul of the party and elections from block to the Congress Working Committee level, but came under attack.
