Mysuru, Nov 24: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa asserted that the state government was committed to maintaining the best law and order situation in the state free of crime so as to ensure the safety of citizens.
He was speaking after inaugurating the newly built office of the Mysuru police commissioner and construction of 108 houses under the Police Housing 2020 scheme on Tuesday.
Emphasising the role the police force in maintaining peace as well as law and order situation, the chief minister said the people expected a citizen-friendly, responsible, transparent and professional service from the police.
The chief minister said the state government would give impetus and all encouragement to the police force in Mysuru and accord the highest priority for providing the infrastructural needs of the police.
He appreciated the efforts of the home department in meeting the housing needs of the policemen in Mysuru and the construction of the 108 houses in the city at a cost of Rs 21.31 crore through the Karnataka Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation.
Yediyruappa said another 184 housing units were proposed to be constructed under the Police Housing 2025 scheme.
The chief minister appreciated the efforts of the police force in helping the state government in its efforts to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and also ensuing that the people were compelled to maintain the norms of social distancing and wearing of masks.
Pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held a virtual meeting with all chief ministers of the country on the COVID-19 situation in India, the chief minister mentioned that the Prime Minister has stressed the need to strictly follow the corona control protocols in the next four to five weeks to ensure that the pandemic does not spike further.
Homw Minister Basavaraj Bommai lauded the police force and its personnel and said the state’s police department has been recognized for its exemplary work, efficiency and professionalism.
He said the police force in Mysuru district and the city have performed well during the lockdown period and also in maintaining the law and order situation.
Deputy chief minister Govind M Karjol, cooperation minister S T Somashekar, MLAs S A Ramadas, G T Deve Gowda, Tanvir Sait, Adaguru H Vishwanath, k T Srikantegowda, K Mahadev, L Nagendra, B Harshavardhan, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha, Mysuru deputy commissioner Rohini Sinduri, Mysuru Urban Development Authority chairman H V Rajeev, DGP and IGP Praveen Sood, Mysuru City police commissiioner Dr Chandragupta, SP C B Rishyant, Mysuru Mahanagara Palike commissioner Gurudatt Hegde, mayor Tasneem, Mysuru zilla panchayat chairman B C Parimala Shyam and other dignitiaries participated in the programme.
Mysuru RBI Paper Mills managing director K G Vishwanathan, manager A R Hegde and Dharani Kumar and secretary Lakshmisha Babu presented a cheque for Rs 75 lac to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
