Udupi, Nov 25: “The quality of white raw rice being distributed at ration shops in the district is poor. Good quality rice should be distributed,” said district panchayat president Dinakar Babu to the officials. He was speaking after presiding over the monthly KDP meeting held in district panchayat auditorium on Wednesday, November 25. He asked the officials to write a letter to the department of food and civil supplies about the quality of rice.
The food department officials said that the rice is being supplied from Andhra Pradesh and the local rice grown in the district is not sufficient. The president responding on the matter urged the officials to write to the states that supply the rice.
“The ban on plastic is not implemented in the district,” said agriculture and industries standing committee president Sumith Shetty. The president asked Urban Development Authority officials to seize plastic that is with the wholesale merchants. He also asked all the taluk panchayat executives to take immediate action in this connection.
“Plastic ban will be possible when cloth bags as cheap as the plastic bags are made available. Therefore a suitable plan of action should be prepared in this connection,” said education and health standing committee president Pratap Hegde Marali.
