Kundapur, Nov 26: Tekkatte (Kundapur taluk) village accountant Manjunath H R has been awarded three years jail term for accepting bribe. The judgement was delivered by the judge of additional district and sessions court here, Narahari Prabhakar Marathe.
Vkram Kamath from Tekkatte had complained to the Lokayukta on March 15, 2011 about the village accountant having demanded for bribe.
Vikram's mother Mohini has ten cents land at Tekkatte. She wanted to get the land converted and approached Manjunath. Manjunath reportedly said that it will cost her Rs 15,000. He collected advance amount of Rs 8,000 and sought the balance amount of Rs 7,000 to hand over the conversion letter when it was ready. When this amount was being handed over, the Lokayukta police had conducted a raid and caught the village accountant red-handed.
The then police inspector of Lokayukta Udupi station C E Thimmaiah investigated the case and filed charge sheet in the district court at Udupi. Later, the case was transferred to the district court at Kundapur which announced the verdict on on November 25. In addition to imprisonment, the accused has also been asked to pay a fine of Rs 30,000.
On behalf of the prosecution, special Lokayukta public prosecutor T Vlijay Kumar Shetty Indrali had argued the case.
