State students excel in CBSE, ICSE exams
Bangalore, May 19 (DC): Students from Karnataka have excelled in the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) and ICSE/ISE class XII examinations. While 5,190 of the 5,348 CBSE students who appeared for the exam, passed, recording a pass percentage of 97.05, the figures were even better for ICSE students with 99.94 per cent succeeding in clearing the exam. ISC students were not far behind with 99.47 per cent getting through.
But while the pass percentage in ICSE exams is up by 0.16 per cent over last year, the pass percentage has fallen in the ISC stream by 0.09 percent, according to a press release issued by Gerry Arathoon, additional secretary and officiating chief executive and secretary, on Wednesday.
Girls have done marginally better than boys in the CBSE stream with 2,244 of the 2,301 (97.52 per cent)who appeared , getting through as against 96.69 per cent of the boys. In ICSE the highest score has gone to a girl student who got 98 per cent in English and in ISC the highest overall percentage of 98 has gone to a male student.
As many as 97 candidates in ICSE got grade 1 in all seven subjects, while only one student acheived this distinction in the ISC examination. However, 11 ISC students managed to get grade 1 in six subjects. CBSE toppers at Kendriya Vidyalaya: Science- Anshu Avinash, ASC centre, Bengaluru Commerce - Lakshmi Arts- Linntung Ane Tayeng.
