Kasargod, Dec 2: The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed an appeal filed by Kerala government against probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation ordered by the state high court on the murders of youth Congress workers, Krilpesh and Sharathlal.

This has effectively come as a loss of face for the government which was adamant at not handing over this probe to the central agencies.

The SC has ordered that all files relating to investigation into the murders should be immediately handed over to the CBI by the crime branch.

The family members of the slain activists had approached the high court with a request to order a CBI investigation into the murders as the government did not heed to their requests. The high court ruled in their favour. The state government had questioned this order in the SC.

12 accused including a local CPI(M) leader had been arrested in the case. Initially, the local police had investigated the case. Later, it was handed over to the crime branch. There were allegations that the accused are being shielded because of political considerations. Therefore, the family members had fought for the CBI probe.

Kripesh and Sharathlal were returning home on the night of February 17, 2019 on a two-wheeler, when they were murdered at Periya Kalyott.
