Bengaluru, Dec 3: The Congress has urged the state government to order a judicial probe by a sitting high court judge into the confession made by H Vishwanath who was the BJP candidate in Hunsur bypoll. Vishwanath had reportedly said that he was given a huge amount by the party to fight the election.
The demand was made by former MP V S Ugrappa, former minister H M Revanna, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee media head B L Shankar at a joint media conference they addressed.
"Vishwanath has said that for the bypoll, the BJP had given a huge amount to him but the money was not delivered to him by C P Yogeshwar and chief minister's political secretary N R Santosh, with the specific purpose of defeating him. Vishwanathi has told the truth. We believe that he will stay committed to what he said," they stated.
"We are of the opinion that the election commission, enforcement directorate and income tax department should have registered a suo moto case relating to this statement and held investigation. But these institutions are being misused by the central government. If the truth has to come out, a judicial probe headed by a sitting high court judge should be ordered," they demanded. The Congress leaders said that since a month, various developments are taking place that have close links with the office of the chief minister. They pointed out that the chief minister's political secretary was dismissed, media advisor had resigned, and Santosh had tried to end his life. They asked the BJP to provide detailed information to the people of the state.
