Udupi, Dec 4: Hadinabal Sripad Hegde (66), one of the most talented artistes belonging to Badaguthittu form of Yakshagana, breathed his last on the night of Thursday December 3 at a private hospital here. He was from Hadinabal, Honnavar, in Uttara Kannada district.
Hegde has left behind wife and two sons. Family sources said that the mortal remains of Hegde would be taken to Hadinabal on Friday morning and arrangements will be made to enable people to have the glimpse of the artiste and pay their last respects between 7.00 am and 10.00 am.
Hegde had suffered injuries in an accident which happened near Kadathoka near Honnavar last year. After surgery was performed on his skull, he was taking rest at home. As he fell ill again recently for which he was admitted into a hospital in Udupi where his end came.
Hegde, born in 1953, was also an expert in making Ganesha and other idols with clay. He was also skilled in painting. He had won several awards including Yakshagana Academy and Yakshagana Kalaranga awards. He had served different Yakshagana troops for about 40 years. He was known for fluent dialogues pregnant with in-depth knowledge, and could do different kinds of roles including Stree Vesha and the role of jester in different episodes. He was famous for portrayal of the roles of Daksha, Lord Rama, Anjaneya, Kamsa, Bheema, Arjuna, Parashurama, Ambe,Shoorpanakha and Chitrangada.
