Mangalore : The Lucky 8 who Survived...

Mangalore , May 23 : It has been like a rebirth for the eight people who survived the air crash in Mangalore yesterday that killed 158 on board. Despite the gravity of crash that plunged many families into grief there is some consolation and ecstasy for the families of these eight survivors who have escaped from the jaws of death.
Pradeep of Taneerbavi (28), Mohammed Usman (49) of Hampankatta, Joel D Souza (24) of Vamanjoor, Maahin Kuttty Krishnan (49) of Kannur in Kerala, Krishnan (37) of Kasaragod Uduma, Ummar Farook (26) of Ullal, Abdulla (37) of Puttur Samethadka and Mangalore KMC student Sabreena (23) are the fortunate ones who survived the crash. Of the eight only Sabreena is injured seriously but is out of danger now.
All the survivors are recuperating in the various hospitals of the city. Sabreena and Ummar Farook are in A J Hospital, Joel is in KMC, Maahin Kutty Krishnan is in SCS and Mohammed Usman is undergoing greatment in Unity Hospital, Mangalore. Abdulla who was treated at Kshema in Deralakate for minor injuries has been discharged and gone home.

Pradeep who has been working in Dubai as an A C Technician for the last two years was coming home on an emergency leave of 15 days to attend his brother Chandrakanth’s wedding fixed for May 27. He said “I boarded the aircraft at 1.20 am Dubai time and was sitting on the right side. At around 6.15 am he felt slight vibration when the plane touched the runway. Soon after I felt the plane dashed something and the upper part split into two parts and my seat belt broke off. I climbed up the seat and jumped out of the plane. When I was just walking back the villagers took me to the hospital. Within a few seconds of the incident the plane exploded into a ball of fire”. He further added “my father late Gangandhara Kotian was a good man and today I am alive because of the good deeds he had done”.
Joel D Souza of Vamanjoor who also got a new lease of life had left for Dubai on job related visiting visa four months back. Joel who got minor injury on the leg says “the plane started at 1.20 am Dubai time and reached Mangalore airport at around 6.15 am. When it touched the ground and was moving in the runway suddenly I felt the plane gaining speed and soon I could feel the plane tilted and fell into a ditch. Soon the plane caught fire and the upper portion broke open and my seat belt broke. I climbed the seat and jumped from the side where the plane had broken”.
Mohammed Usman of Hampankatta, Mangalore, has been working in Dubai for the last 29 years and was coming to Mangalore to spend sometime with children during holidays. He also survived the crash by jumping out of the upper part of the plane that had split open and escaped with minor injuries. He says he felt like the tyres of the plane got exploded. After spending sometime with children in May Usman had booked the ticked once again for Agust again to come to Mangalore.
Kasargod’s Krishana who is returning to the native place after a gap of 2 ½ years has also escaped with minor injuries by jumping from the upper part of the plane which had broken.
