Bantwal: Govt employee attempts to end life - Blames senior officers in suicide note

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (EP)

Bantwal, Dec 10: Health officer of Bantwal municipal council, Vittal Poonacha resident Ravi Krishna attempted suicide on Thursday morning and accused his superiors for mental harassment. In his suicide note, Ravi wrote that he is committing suicide because he is no longer able to cope with the torment his senior officers put him through.

Ravi's suicide note was found on Thursday morning and he had consumed poison with an intent to end his life. However, he was rescued and admitted to a private hospital in Puttur.

Ravi was transferred from Sullia municipal council to Bantwal municipal council five months ago.

The contents of his letter are as follows:

“Respected president, please forgive me. The chief officer of our office Lena Britto is mentally torturing me unnecessarily every day. Similarly, Iqbal of the office is spreading unnecessary false propaganda against me.

I had started working for Bantwal municipal council five months ago. There were no problems during the initial two months. After that, till today the chief officer has been hurling unnecessary expletives at me and mentally harassing me. I have not retorted to her statements as I have treated her as my mother. I have never acted indecently or inappropriately with the office staff. You can ask around about my behaviour. The chief officer is also hindering me from obtaining a transfer to another office. I speak to seniors with patience but they harass me every day. I have, therefore, decided to end my life as I cannot suffer this torture any longer. Please forgive me.

Our civic workers including three writers are good people and do their work well. Please provide them with all the facilities.

Provide courage to my two children and my parents. Sharada and my father, please forgive me as I have made a mistake.

Only the chief officer and Iqbal are responsible for my death. Make sure that they do not trouble any more people. My friends in the office please forgive me. Razaq sir, I do not understand what to write.”

In general and our poor public administration systems majority of these kind of people get these government jobs due to reservations and bribing officials without any merit or competency. They want to pass their time without doing much and no accountability and responsibility. When they get a tough task master as their Supervisor who asks for output and accountability then these kind problems arise and they blame others for their failures and politicise the whole issues. If he is good at his work he prove with his abilities and fight it out to prove that he is right. All looks like some kichdi in cooking.......!!!

Majority of the supervisors are got their posts not because of talent. They will just do chamchagiri with some MLA/MP. If they see some talented person working and not interested in chamchagiri than they will harass them. Like this situation will be most of the institutions.

very sad to read this and his intention to end life.what a luck he was saved. One should immediately go through his complain of harassment and if true action should be taken.when he thought of to end life ,something must be there .All superiors are not same, specially when one is new ,many try to make life hell /or feel good. Now what next?will he be again in same office or transfered again?Hope he will be ok .

    Fishy.
    There is something.... somewhere wrong.
Looks like he is been forced to do so.
    That's my thinking.
5 months he had no prob.
If had problems he could have complained to his top officials who transfrred him
