Mangaluru: Protest against ‘mixopathy’ - Allopathic OPDs to remain closed on Friday

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 11: The allopathic doctors, who are up in arms against the government's initiative in giving permission to the Ayurveda doctors to perform some of the minor surgeries which they call mixopathy, the allopathic practitioners have decided to register their protest by keeping their outpatient (OPD) services closed from 6 am to 6 pm on Friday December 11.

Giving details, president of Mangaluru unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr M A R Kudva, said that OPDs services will stand suspended during the above period. "About 6,000 doctors have been serving in medical colleges and private hospitals within the jurisdiction of Mangaluru unit of IMA out of which over 1,500 are actively associated with the IMA. We will come together in front of the association's office near Wenlock Hospital in the city at 11 am and hold demonstration. Later, a delegation of five members will meet the deputy commissioner and hand over petition," he explained.

Dr Kudva added that this is a symbolic protest. He said that protest of more serious nature would be launched if the government tries to introduce unscientific methods in the medical system and that the protest is aimed at conveying to the government of their strong disapproval.

IMA state unit member, Dr Annayya Kulal, said that there are 174 units under the state IMA and IMA has units in places like Mangaluru, Mulky, Surathkal, Beltangady, Sullia and Bantwal. Protest demonstration will be held at all these places, he said.

The central government, during the last month, had permitted Ayurvedic doctors to perform some simple surgeries subject to certain conditions. As per the changes, Ayurveda practitioners holding postgraduate degrees who have undergone practical training, can perform these surgeries. The allopathic doctors have been opposing the move. They have asked the government to review its decision.

Dakshina Kannada district health officer, Dr Ramachandra Bairy, said that all the government doctors and medical staff have been asked to be on duty on Friday as the private allopathic doctors would be protesting by closing the OPDs. He said that all preparations have been made to ensure that no patient from the district faces any problem. He said that the government will respond to the demands of the doctors.

A time will come when Allopaths will only be utilised for emergency purposes!

Check out & see for yourself how much big the business of naturopathy has become; of course, not in surgical procedures!

BJP Govt is hell bent on restoring India to the stone age with such initiatives. This is only one of several such foolish initiatives.

This will be the most effective and innovative way of controlling Indian population. I am sure it will be hugely successful , as un educated , slum dwellers, people with very little money , etc will fall prey to the quakes that are there in abundance. Deaths will not get noticed, because poor have no legal way of challenging the new Feku medical network.

Why r these allopaths afraid other stream postgraduate docs if they are allowed to conduct small prosrceders for which those conducting will be accountable!
Only the fear of losing easy business could be the problem!

In olden days how many MBBS docs were there, forget about post grads/surgeons who are dime a dozen in the cities!
This claim is like a fellow cannot design programs for compter or any other sector if he is not a Btech inIT?

All Allopathic hospitals r controlled by greedy corporates & politicians; and the product passing out from these institutions is supposed to be below standard levels due to the high levels of black money involved!

They are allowed to remove the gall bladder, appendix, tonsils and opaque lens of the eye in cataract surgeries as per notification.
Will you opt for these surgeries to your family members from an Ayush doctor?

BTW, NATUROPATHY IS EXPANDING IN A BIG WAY THE WORLD OVER AS PEOPLE R GETTING AWARE OF THE SEVERE SIDE EFFECT OF MODERN MEDICINE!

I think neither the allopathic doctors nor the general public know what exactly is done. The central govt's move came after the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), which regulates the medical study and practice of Ayurveda, amended the Indian Medicine Central Council (Post Graduate Ayurveda Education) Regulations, 2016, to allow the PG students of Ayurveda to practice general surgery. The Amendment Regulations 2020, saying that "the notification is specific to 58 specified surgical procedures and doesn't allow Shalya and Shalakya PGs to take up any other surgeries”.

    i. The Ayush doctors will be trained in these surgeries in Ayush hospitals only. They will do these surgeries in ayurvedic hospitals. They will not be trained in modern medicine(allopathic) medical college hospitals.
ii. These amendments will remain only in papers, neither there are people who can train Ayush doctors to do the surgeries and surely, they will not be able to do these complex surgeries.
iii. There are so many complications even in the hands of trained doctors of modern medicine, I don't think any sane Ayush doctor will be bold enough to do these surgeries and get into trouble.

Basically this is a political move. The people who know nothing about allopathy or Ayush have drafted these changes just to please the people that 'Indian System' is supported.
