Mangalore, May 26: Air India Express flight to Kuwait that was to leave the local airport at 9.30 pm on Tuesday was cancelled due to some technical problems. The passengers were asked to disembark from the aircraft after detecting problems at the last minute. They were later accommodated in various hotels in the city.
The said flight had arrived from Kozhikode at around 8 pm, carrying 56 passengers. At the time the flight was to leave, it had 129 passengers on board. Boarding passes had been issued and passengers had boarded the plane. There was confusion in the airport for sometime, as the passengers were unable to convey to their relatives who had come to see them off and also those scheduled to pick them up at Kuwait airport, as they were not informed about any concrete plans by Air India to take them to their destination. Although rumours about possibility of the flight having been cancelled because of the strike call by Air India employees made the rounds initially, the officials later clarified that the reason for the cancellation of the flight was the technical snags detected in the aircraft.
The flight is scheduled to leave on Wednesday May 26, even though the time of its departrure is yet to be finalized. Reliable sources in Air India said that the snag was not major, and that the captain of the flight wanted to exercise caution and make doubly sure that everything was perfect and nothing was left to chance.
