Mangaluru’s link with multi-crore gold seizure in Kerala

Mangaluru, Dec 12: The smuggling of gold worth several crores of rupees that had given rise to political upheavals in Kerala, it now transpires, has ramifications extending to the city.

It is said that in their investigation, Kerala customs officials have found that a jeweller from Mangaluru was involved with the smugglers of the gold.

The customs have sought court permission to add this person as an accused in the case.

A jeweller located at Bhavanthi Street here had bought 30 kg gold from the persons accused of smuggling gold worth several crore rupees, the customs department has claimed. It has sought to make this person the 24th accused in the case and also requested the court to issue non-bailable arrest warrant for detailed investigation.

    Mangalore has now become a hub for all sorts of illegal activities, there seems to be lack of intelligence in curbing high profile crimes!
    Our people ruled the roost by colluding with the underworld & were #1 in running ladies bars! Most got killed by enemy gangs, some in infighting for supremacy!
    Lots of people took the e &asy route out & escaped to Gulf countries & many migrated to European countries for greener pastures leaving their valuable properties at peanut rates, which was cornered by shrude locals -& outside oppurtunists, who built businesses which are the leaders today!
    Due to lack of localites outsiders had to be imported for all sorts of work & made their bases here making the localites look like outsiders!
    Those cultivating Areca r the richest; it's the most sought after cash crop today!
    Many especially from Gulf are back & struggling, repenting on selling their huge properties at peanut rates in the hands of people who have established themselves with big monopoly businesses!

    Imagine this guy who bought 30kg of gold owning a small shop!
    No use of shouting now!

    Rudolf bhai, Educated youths have no credible future in Dakshin Kannada district.... What choice do they have but to migrate to other cities and across continents ??? Sucessive governments grossly neglected this vibrant region... Gulf boom is over, leaving many returnees in a severe dilemma !!! The few who migrated to greener pastures, will never return !!! Their aged parents are all confined to old aged institutions !!!! Outsiders have exploited this weakness and taken over the entire coastal region....

    Very much true Almeida bhai; every second person is a Btech or MBA, no jobs; many such qualified guys have started working for courier delivery jobs where they are paid 15k salary+5k petrol allowance, such salary is not offered by any company here for freshers!

    Gulf returnees are crying having sold their ancestral property for peanuts; bedridden parents are languishing in old age homes as children are settled in far off countries never to come back!

    Keralites have been engaged in international trade from centuries back; with people from Egypt, Israel, Portugal, Rome, Arabia, China etc. and become open to some of the advance civilisations of the time. Due to this exchange of information and ideas, their global horizons widened in an extra ordinary manner and they showed a ready attitude to go places.

    In the late 60s, when the state was facing economic crisis, Keralites went to Gulf without having any idea of the place where they were heading to and what is in store for them. This was at a time when there was no Internet and not even STD / ISD facilities. If the Gulf migration liberated the State economically, the Marxists, Christian missionaries, Sri Narayana Guru liberated the State socially. Gulf Migration made people upwardly mobile, rich and entrepreneurial. Hence they started migrating all over the world. Hence you would see Malayalees all over.

    Some of the basic attributes of a Malayalee has been egalitarian & progressive outlook, hard work, willingness to assimilate with the local cultures yet retain their identity as a Malayalee.

    If Mangaloreans wanted to live as a frog in the well, it is their predicament, for which Malayalees need not be blamed. Talking about the undesirable elements, they are there in every place. Mumbai underworld / Mumbai hotel businesses are enough examples. But such matters need not be generalised.

    Yesterday, I had been to IDBI Bank where 90% of the staff is Malabaris. Then, I went to Vijaya Bank where majority staff seems to be Malabaris. What is wrong with our lovely Mangalore? Heart breaking.

    Naturally, crime rate, agitations and violence is bound to increase.

    They will perpetrate the crime and cross over to Kerala. Our police will be helpless.

    Our political leaders are busy in safeguarding their seat. Feel very sad.

    I remember one of the Karnataka based private bank Manager was transferred to a place outside Mangalore. The staff refused to move and in the argument with the management, the management said don’t expect us open a branch next to your kitchen. The staff quit the bank and joined a new generation bank which was looking out for space for opening a branch in Mangalore. The staff suggested the new employer a building close to her residence and got the branch opened. This is what a Mangalorean is. Why blame the Keralites?

    Mangaluru city and its its outskirts, have become notoriously, a very safe hideout, for undesired elements and criminals !!! It has literally an extended arm of the volatile region of north Kerala district !!! Malayalam has replaced local languages !!! Land n Flat owners, flout the mandatory police clearance checks in the city !!! How many gold and narcotics peddlers are active ??? How many terrorists sleeper cells, have taken refuge, waiting to strike, as they did last December 2019 ???
