Mangalore, May 27: The close relatives of Navid Ibrahim Siraj from Udupi, whose identity was confirmed through DNA test, refused to take the mortal remains identified to be that of Siraj. They doubted the accuracy of the DNA test.
Siraj’s was one out of the ten bodies, identifications of which were established through DNA test. After this information was conveyed to the family, Shamir, brother of the deceased, his father and other relatives came to Attavar KMC Hospital to claim the body.
“None of the physical attributes found in Navid Ibrahim are seen in the body shown to us. Navid was 23, but the body identified appears to be of a man aged between 40 and 45 years. Navid had shaved his beard and moustache, but this body has thick moustache. Navid was shorter and leaner as against this body having contrasting features. Navid Ibrahim had sent in his photograph a few days before his death. He did not have hair on his chest, whereas this body has them,” Shamir contended.
On this occasion, Hanif, secretary of Muslim Central Committee, felt that it would be better to pool all the bodies at one place after the DNA test reports of all the bodies are received, so that the relatives will be able to properly assess the features and identify the bodies of their close relatives by coming together at a time.
