Bengaluru: Electricity, water, gas bills payment through select post offices

Bengaluru, Dec 16: Henceforth, citizens will be able to pay their electricity, gas and water bills through over 800 post offices in this state. They can also pay the premium on life and general insurance policies and remit equated monthly instalments. They can also fill online applications for loans through these post offices.

After running these services on an experimental basis for three months, the postal department has started to provide these services in over 10,000 post offices all over the country including the state where it has opened Janseva Centres. The department has entered into an agreement with the general services centre and installed a special service vehicle of the information technology and electronics ministry in its branches.

Karnataka circle chief postmaster general Sharada Sampath said that these service centres have been established in 50 per cent of the post offices, out of which 345 centres are in north Karnataka and 386 in south Karnataka. She said that 120 centres are available in Bengaluru zone. "Government to citizens services too, are being provided under which Prime Minister Street Vendor's Atmanirbhar Nidhi scheme, Prime Minster's Jan Arogya scheme, National Pension Scheme, Pan Cards, e-stamp services and Jeevan Praman certificates/digital life certificates etc will be provided through apps. Under the dock Niryath Kendra, traditional farmers can sell their crops at a good price," she explained.

She said that by entering into an agreement with the state government, services have been started in Bidar, Hubballi, Channapatna, Mysuru and Shivamogga. Postmaster General, V Tara, stated that the farmers can get rid of middlemen and get the right price for their crops through this system.
