Udupi: Excessive 'Congressisation' cause for Legislative Council din – Kota Poojary

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB/SP)

Udupi, Dec 17: "The chaos created at the Legislative Council session has given rise to a sense of anguish in everyone. But 'Congressisation' has been the reason behind it. In the past, a no-confidence motion had been moved against council speaker Shankaramurthy of the BJP. For the first time, an air of despair has been created and the Congress is directly responsible," said minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Thursday December 17.

Replying to questions raised by media persons, he said that December 15 was the last day for taking up the no-confidence motion. “Council chairman Prathapchandra Shetty was restrained by the Congress leaders. Otherwise this episode would not have happened. Congress is indulging in these things because of pitiable position they are in now.

“If something is rejected when the chairman is in his seat, it becomes the decision of the council as a whole. The Congress, instead of taking the path of righteousness, regulated the chairman and carefully ensured that the no-confidence motion is not moved,” he said.

Poojary said that it is but natural for the BJP to approach the governor. He said that the party has wanted discussions to be held on the topic and also to immediately fix the date for voting. He said that there is no question of dismissing the council. He said that the proceedings have to be handled responsibly and justifiably.

Poojary said that the BJP leaders will decide who should be the next chairman of the council and there is no confusion on this issue. On the issue of making Horatti the next council chairman, he said that a decision will be taken after the current chaos is cleared. About the Anti-Cow Slaughter Bill, he said that the lower house has passed it and the government will implement it through an ordinance.

On the issue of formalin in fish, he said, “We have received complaints even earlier. I have instructed the fisheries department to conduct investigation and to take immediate action on the same.”

On Kodi villagers boycotting election, he said, “Some people brought stay on jetty work as silt should be dumped into sea and not anywhere else. The silt was stored which according to law is illegal. I urge to investigate this issue separately. A new proposal has been sent to the government.”

On RTC sanction to Kodi villagers, who are residing in CRZ area, he said, “Though there were legal objections, I was able to provide RTC for 18 families.

“Now the government had fixed the rate according to market value. But the villagers are demanding concession on market price. The actual price was Rs 5,000 per cent (10% on market price). We have finalised the resolution and waiting for the cabinet to grant approval.

“Nowadays boycotting election has become a fashion. If they do not want election in democracy, let it be. Protesters know everything, but are still encouraging protests. Every time they do repeat and more so during elections. No one will force them. The Election Commission will take the next step.

“Rs 7 crore have been released for the construction of fishing road and the work has already started. In addition, Rs 75 lac has been provided under rural development for infrastructure facilities,” he said.

Regarding Saptapadi scheme he said, “The government made some changes in the plan to follow Covid protocols. Henceforth, it will be conducted month wise. The mass wedding will be held in between January 15 to 30 next year.”

On Cabinet expansion, he said that chief minister B S Yediyurappa will take the decision the same.

“An Act to ban Love Jihad is being worked out. It will also be implemented through ordinance. Our party support the act,” he said.
