Bengaluru, Dec 19: At a time when the people are reeling under the increasing price of fuel in the state, they have received another jolt in the form of hike in the prices of LPG and commercial gas cylinders. During the last 15 days, LPG price for the 14.2 kg cylinder has seen a hike of Rs 100 while the 19 kg commercial cylinder price has seen an increase of Rs 92.
Till a few days ago, the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder was Rs 597 while the 19 kg cylinder was priced at Rs 1,290. The public sector petroleum companies suddenly raised the LPG cylinder prices by Rs 50 on December 2 while the price of commercial cylinders went up by Rs 56. This came as a rude shock as the price had been increased just two weeks back. On December 15, the rate went up by Rs 50 and Rs 36 respectively. As a result, the price of subsidy LPG cylinder stands at Rs 697 while that of the commercial cylinder, Rs 1,382. This has become additional burden for the people who have already been harassed by corona-induced economic difficulties and other issues.
Oil companies said that LPG subsidy amount for May, June and July has not been received from the central government for reasons unknown. There are 1.78 crore LPG consumers in the state.
