Puttur, Dec 21: The traffic police have taken into custody the driver of a tipper which hit the motorbike driven by senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist Venkataramana Holla and caused his death in the wee hours of December 15. The tipper had sped away after getting involved with the accident at Polya on Mani-Mysuru Road.

The arrested driver has been identified as Charan Kumar from Panaje. The accident took place when he was driving the tipper towards Mangaluru to collect a load of sand. The tipper driver had gone away with his vehicle and there were no eyewitnesses. Initially it was believed that Holla would have died after his bike tripped and hit the road divider. But a close inspection revealed that his head looked like having been crushed on one side under the weight of something.

Holla was going to his house in Bantwal from Puttur when the tipper came from behind and knocked him down. The police unearthed the truth on the basis of GPS of the tipper and mobile network of the driver.

Almost all the tipper drivers are rash and reckless and most of them are not from DK and Udupi; so better traffic depart issue few guidelines for them like speed limit 40 km/h and particular lane and penalty for speed etc. etc. to stop such type of accidents.

At last GPS came in hand to the Police. More research on GPS and its use may track accidents in time in future. Thanks to the science.

I sincerely requesting our Traffic Police to check daily( random) the drivers licenses of these tippers, because most of the tipper operators are from Bagalkote, Ballari, and near by places and not locals.
