Byndoor, Dec 21: "Panchayati raj system is also known as self-governance. For the panchayat raj system to succeed, people getting elected need to have the capacity to provide transparent, honest and efficient administration which can ensure basic facilities and response to the needs of the general public. The people so elected have to vibe with the needs of the people, and have knowledge and interest in the panchayat raj system to make best use of government grants. BJP has fielded such candidates. By electing candidates supported by the BJP, villages will move towards progress and prosperity," the minister stated.
He was addressing a press conference at the Byndoor BJP office on Monday December 21. Poojary said that 6,020 gram panchayats will go to polls in the state this time. He exuded confidence that the BJP supported candidates will win in 39 gram panchayats in Byndoor constituency and 154 in Udupi district. He pointed out that as compared to Rs 15 lac gram panchayats used to receive under the 14th finance commission, now the gram panchayats are getting one to two crore rupees by way of grants depending upon population under PM Modi's rule. He said that experienced presidents, vice presidents and members can make judicious use of such grants for the development of villages. Therefore he called upon the people to elect people who have experience, commitment and ability to provide good governance.
He said that Saptapadi mass marriage programme, withheld due to coronavirus pandemic, will be resumed from January and that two such programmes will be held in January and February months.
Byndoor taluk panchayat president Mahendra Poojary, zilla panchayat member Babu Hegde, taluk panchayat vice president Malini K, district BJP general secretary Sadnanda Uppinakudru, Byndoor Mandal president Deepak Kumar Shetty and others were present.
