Udupi: Lawyer accused of false marriage promise, raping - Victim seeks justice

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB/MS)

Udupi, Dec 21: Umesh, brother-in-law of the victim, who was subjected to forceful physical relation by a lawyer, promising marriage, has urged the police to arrest the lawyer and provide justice to his sister-in-law.

Speaking at the press conference in the city on Monday, December 21, Umesh, brother-in-law of the victim, said, "A case in this regard is already filed at the women’s police station here on December 13 but the investigation is progressing very slowly. In addition, lawyer Sukumar Shetty is threatening me and my family with life. In addition, his friends are calling the victim repeatedly and trying to scare her. He has political influence and the police also are hand in glove with him. An appeal is made to the superintendent of police Vishnuvardhan to intensify the investigation.

"The family of the victim came to know about her affair with Sukumar after two years of their relationship. The family members agreed with their relationship. Sukumar promised to marry the girl in April earlier this year. When the matter of marriage was raised with the accused in February, he said that their caste is different and his parents are not willing for the marriage. Sukumar took the girl to a deserted place in July and physically tortured her. Sukumar is also falsely accusing us of bringing this matter to the police as his brother is contesting the gram panchayat elections.

"Recently, using his influence, he has applied for anticipatory bail. If he is not arrested, we will fight through organizations. We do not want any politics. We are not in agreement with my sister-in-law getting married to him. We have proof of his threats and demands. We will not allow Sukumar to continue in this manner. The police department has to arrest him and see that he does not deceive other girls,” he said.

The victim said, "Sukumar knows me for the past six years. Recently, he had taken me to a deserted place near a stone quarry and sexually assaulted me. He tortured me physically also. I have also come to know that he has illicit relations with some more girls. But they should not get cheated like me. So I request the police to immediately arrest Sukumar, who is absconding at present.”

Many times girls are duped by politicians famous persons. Was her caste or family was not a matter when he raped her for more than two years?

I give always girls the mistake why fall to boys promise of marrying and tend to sexuell exploit?

One who wants to marry ,take the steps to be taken, such as ask parents ,and go ahead with other preparation. Not first exploit girl for longer than two years ,threaten family or girl of serious steps.

That shouldnt pass to a person like a lawyer. When his relation wants to become politician let him be,it has nothing to do with his marraige.Influencing from someone is typical Indians. Now her relations shouldnt listen to threats ,go forward with case.Secind would he marry her now.I doubt. If marrys also it wouldnt be a happy one.But dont give up

Dear Sangh Parivar, Dont you really think that you should stop/fix this issue more than inter-region marriage where both are married with their own consent (you may call it love jihad etc).

Police must take immediate action to arrest the accused and interrogate him for his actions. If he found guilty must file a case against him and let the law decide. Ofcourse he is having political connections so must have put pressure on police to delay the arrest. If he is fair why does he absconded???

Not sure who is victim or who is culprit. Case should be investigated on the both party. Fair trial should be investigated
