Mangaluru, Dec 22: Two persons accused of creating obstruction for the police from discharging their duties were ordered to undergo jail sentences of one year each by the judge of the fourth additional district and sessions court here, T P Ramalinge Gowda.
Muhammed Irshad (30), resident of Kalladka, and Saddam Hussain (30) from Bantwal Puodu, were held guilty and sentenced. They have also been asked to pay fine of Rs 3,000 each.
Bantwal rural station police sub-inspector Prasanna M S, and five other police personnel were checking vehicles at Manipalla junction on B C Road - Beltangady road when a car tried to crash into the policemen. The police fired at the car wheel at which the car jumped into the roadside drain. Two people who were inside ran away. Both reportedly had tried to attack the policeman with swords. Later, the police had arrested four accused.
One of the accused, Muhammed Muksin, has absconded and never appeared for court hearing. Public prosecutor Harishchandra Udyavar had appeared in the case on behalf of the prosecution.
