Mangaluru, Dec 22: Karnataka Yakshagana Academy has announced its annual awards for the year 2020. Veteran Yakshagana Arthadhari and author of Prasangas, D S Sridhar, has been chosen for the coveted 'Parthi Subba' award.
This was revealed by the president of Karnataka Yakshagana Academy, Prof M A Hegde, at a press conference he addressed at Mangaluru Press Club on Monday December 21. The award carries cash component of one lac rupees and a plaque, he explained.
Five achievers have been picked for the annual honorary awards. They are B Sanjeeva Suvarna from Kunjibettu Udupi, K Thimmappa Gujaran from Kolambe Talakala, Dr Vijaya Nalini Ramesh from Sirsi Sahyadri Colony, Dr Chakkere Shivashankar from Shrinagar, Bengaluru and B Parashuram from Ballari Haranapanahalli. These awards comprise of Rs 50,000 in cash and a plaque.
Ten people with consideable contribkutin to Yakshagana field have been chosen for the 'Yakshasiri' annual awards. They are Gopala Acharya Thirthahalli from Kundapur, Ramesh from Katbelthoor Kundapur, Avarse Srinivas Madivala from Udupi, Harinarayana Baipadithaya from Bajpe Kolambe Mangaluru, Sanjay Kumar Shetty from Bendore Mangaluru, M R Hegde Kanagod from Sirsi, Subrahmanya Dhareshwar from Kirimanjeshwar Kundapur, Vitla Shambhu Sharma from Bantwal Kodankap, Baragur Hanumantharayappa from Sira taluk, Tumakuru district, and A M Mulavagalappa from Kolar Vakkaleri revenue divison. The winners will be presented with Rs 25,000 in cash and certificate.
The awards will be presented at a function being held either in the second or third week of February next year at Ravindr Kalakshetra Bengaluru or Nayana theatre, Hegde added.
Member of the academy, Kadri Navneeth Shetty explained that K Thimmappa Gujaran (70) who has been chosen for the annual honorary award, passed away recently. Even though the academy does not have the practice of giving away awards posthumously, in his case, Gujaran's name had been considered before he breathed his last, and he had been informed of it, he added.
