Bengaluru, Dec 22: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday launched the Electric Vehicles Battery Swapping Network in the city, operated by Sun Mobility Company, as part of its green initiative.
The chief minister lauded the initiative of the Sun Mobility Company and said the indigenous solution and commercial model of battery swapping with quick interchange stations were a welcome measure.
"Consumers are ready to adopt electric vehicles and there is a need to ensure that the supporting infrastructure is in place. The indigenous solution and commercial model of battery swapping with quick interchange stations in the city," Yediyurappa said.
As the government is encouraging the usage of electric vehicles, these battery swapping units, besides cutting down charging time will also help to reduce the weight of vehicles, increase mileage and make it possible to drive for longer hours, the chief minister said.
Vice-presidents of Sun Mobility Uday Khemka and Chetan Maini, in their speeches, recalled the support extended by the Government of Karnataka for the manufacture of the first electric vehicle in the country and also appreciated the support extended by the government for this green initiative.
Gaurav Gupta, principal secretary to the government, adviser to the chief minister M Lakshinarayana, D S Rawat, CEO, Sun Mobility, Diego Graffi, CEO and MD Piaggio Vehicles were present.
