Veteran Hotelier Payyar Kariyanna Shetty Passes Away

Eighty-two-year-old Payyar Kariyanna Shetty, veteran hotelier and proprietor of Café Sringar located at Andheri (West), passed away at KMC Hospital, Manipal, on Monday May 31 following cardiac arrest.
 
He was the father of Dr Umesh K Shetty, managing director, metro-based Surgi-Care, and the brother-in-law of Tonse Jayakrishna A Shetty, founder president, Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti (JSKPPS).
 
Kariyanna was a veteran hotelier and served the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR) and Bunts Association in various capacities.
 
He hailed from Payyar family of Kaup in Udupi district. He had been a successful hotelier from many decades in the metro.

He had set up Payyar Kariyanna Shetty Primary and High School in his hometown Kaup owing to his societal concern for education of rural students. He is survived by his wife, one son, and four daughters.  
 
The office-bearers of JSKPPS, Bunts Association, and AHAR, condoled the demise of the veteran hotelier and philanthropist.
 
The mortal remains of Kariyanna were cremated on Monday evening.
