Bantwal: Four teenage girls get trapped in lift for over two-and-a-half hours, rescued

Bantwal, Dec 25: Panic struck people at a residential complex at Kalladka here on the evening of Friday December 25 after four teenagers got trapped in a lift for over two-and-a-half hours.

Fidanaina (15) Lateef, daughter of journalist Lateef, his relative Ismail's daughter Maishina (14), Siyana (13), daughter of Razak, and Afra (19), daughter of Ahmed got trapped in the elevator.

The incident took place at Gangadhar residential building at Kalladka here.

Lateef is a resident of the building. It is learnt that on Friday evening, his relatives came on a visit, and the girls decided to go to a nearby shop. They took the lift to the ground floor, but due to a technical snag, the lift stopped midway.

As soon as the incident took place, residents of the building and locals arrived at the spot and tried to rescue the girls. They managed to drive a wedge into the lift doors using an iron rod, and then placed a table fan to ensure that the girls got enough air so that do not suffocate.

On receiving information from the locals, Bantwal town SI Avinash and other police personnel and fire personnel also arrived. The residents of the building also informed the elevator company.

Finally, the locals managed to force open the doors using iron rods. The incident took place at around 5 pm, and it was past 7.30 pm by the time the girls were rescued.

The incident caused some panic among the locals. They heaved a sigh of relief on seeing the girls hale and hearty.

    so locals damaged the lift door with iron door! No need to panic and it is a common issue. It is easy to open the door using a small triangular shaped tool in the provision given by the manufacturer on front door. Little training to security guard is essential in all apartment building to handle such emergencies.
