Mangalore, Jun 3: A team of policemen from Dakshina Kannada district crime intelligence bureau here, succeeded in arresting Ummer Farooq, the main accused in a plot to murder two advocates from the city. The plot had come to light a few weeks ago, with the arrest of a four men and recovery of lethal arms, cash and vehicles from them. The conspiracy was aimed at avenging the killing of Naushad Kashimji, an advocate, last year, it is said.
The arrest was made from a training centre located in Green Valley in Malappuram district, Kerala, on Wednesday June 2. Four other accused, who are said to have been hired to execute the plan to target advocates, Jagadish Shenava and Shantiprasad Hegde, had been taken into custody during the first week of this month. The arrested men have been identified as Mohammed Iqbal, Ahmed Altaf, Sanoor Illyas and Vamajoor Naushad.
It is learnt that Ummer Farooq had secured shelter in one of the training centres being run by two organizations at Green Valley. There has been widespread opposition from the locals for these training centres. Although there had been hesitation on the part of Kerala policemen to visit the spot, the city policemen went ahead with the task of visiting the place and arresting the accused, achieving a major break through in the case.
