Udupi, Dec 30: Konkan Railway Corporation has asked the City Municipal Council (CMC) here to deposit Rs 52 lac before laying drinking water pipes under the Konkay railway tracks.

This issue came up for discussion at the general session of the municipal council held here on Tuesday, December 29. The session also discussed supplying Varahi river water to meet the drinking water needs of the city.

The officials informed that Konkan Railway Corporation has asked the municipality to deposit Rs 52 lac before laying water pipes under the tracks which pass through the city. MLA Raghupathi Bhat expressed surprise at the huge amount sought by the corporation and suggested to negotiate with the issue with the corporation. Thereafter, the session took a unanimous decision to write to the corporation to bring down this amount which is felt to be unreasonable.

To a question raised by the councillor, Vijay Kodavoor, the officials said that Rs 21 lac has been spent on repairing the two loader vehicles and Rs 14 lac was spent on two JCBs towards repairs. Kodavoor and other councillors objected to this huge amount and urged for detailed inquiry.

Municipal president Sumitra Nayak, presided over the session. MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, vice president Laxmi Manjunath. and municipal councillor Uday Kumar Shetty were at the dais.

Do you think JCB repair bills are fair??? That's why people wants to serve by winning elections at various stages. Now there is heavy demand to serve people through corporator post!
