Mangaluru, Dec 31: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, said that the principals of PU colleges will be held responsible if there is any lapse in sticking to corona guidelines strictly. He was speaking after presiding over the preliminary meeting relating to reopening of second PU classes from January 1, at the auditorium of his office on Wednesday December 30.

He reminded that thermal scanning of every student on arrival, making sure that students wear masks and maintain social distance, and sanitisation of all the rooms including the toilets, have to be scrupulously followed.

He said that the students should provide voluntary attendance letters and their parents should sign consent letters. Letters from the parents about not having any symptoms of the infection should also be collected without fail, he stated. Rajendra said that students should be split into groups and classes of 45 minutes duration each should be conducted every day for three hours.

If the students fall sick, they should be kept in separate rooms and medical aid should be extended, he added. He also said that students from Kerala staying in hostels should produce Covid negative certificates without fail. Noting that there are complaints about tutorials overlooking Covid rules, he asked health department to take suitable steps.

The DC asked parents to send their children to schools without any fear or apprehension. He said that primary and high schools are being cleaned and sanitised and thermal scanners have been arranged. All teachers and non-teaching staff have to compulsorily undergo RT-PCR Covid tests. He said that attendance of children is not compulsory and midday meal will not be provided and hence the students should bring whatever they need when coming to the schools.
