Mangaluru, Jan 1: Members of 'Ullala Veerarani Abbakka Ustava Samithi' on Friday January 1 staged a silent protest on the land, earmarked for the construction of Rani Abbakka Bhavan.

Speaking to media, honorary president of Ullala Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samithi, Jayaram Shetty said, "Though foundation stone have been laid for the Bhavan nine years ago, the construction process has not started.

"Ullal is a sensitive area and the two ‘Bhavans’ coming up in a single place would pave the way for a lot of confusion. Construction of Rani Abbakka Bhavan on this land is very necessary. The district administration should start the work of construction of the building without further delay. We are not opposing the construction of Beary Bhavan, but we are demanding that the Beary Bhavan should be constructed in some other place," he said.

He added that in this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have been signed with Karnataka Housing Board for the construction. He also said that the district administration should complete the construction of work of Rani Abbakka Bhavan within a year.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and Ullala Veerarani Abbakka Ustava Samithi president Dinkar Ullal also spoke and pressed the need of Rani Abbakka Bhavan in the town.

Rajesh Poojary of Akila Bharathiya Hindu Mahasabaha said, "We have submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner urging that Beary Bhavan should not be constructed adjacent to Rani Abbakka Bhavan and the administration should start the work of the same at the earliest.”

Simply wasting time instead of all this build houses for the poor. See to it that the private bus mafia is abolished. We in Mangalore should have the Government city buses instead of the private killer city buses.
