Mysuru, Jan 1: In a scandal that came into the open with delay, it was found that a restaurant owner here has cheated many people to the extent of over two crore rupees by promising to get sites at reasonable prices, and by using fake letterheads.
Sagar Deshpande, owner of Vismaya Restaurant located within the limits of Saraswatipuram police station here, has been arrested for this fraud. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
About three weeks back, a number of people working in IT and BT companies had met the chairman of Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and complained to him that a person who collected money from them by promising house sites had not been giving the promised sites. They also showed to him the site allotment letters they possessed and wanted to know when they would be given sites.
MUDA chairman, H V Rajeev, told them that the letter was not issued in the official letterhead of MUDA and clarified that sites are not allotted through third parties. He then contacted deputy commissioner of police, Prakash Gowda, and asked the affected persons to file complaints. The Saraswatipuram police arrested Sagar Deshpande from Shirdi and registered a case against him.
