Kasargod, Jan 6: In connection with the recovery of the body of an 18-month-old baby from a well, Badiadka police have arrested the mother of the baby, who happens to be the accused.

The arrested lady has been identified as Sharada (25), a resident of Katukukke Perlathadka in Perla. The mortal remains of Sharada's young son Swasthik, had been found from a well near her home on December 4. Her husband Babu, was away working as a coolie when the incident happened. After noticing that the child had gone missing, the people of the area had launched a search operation during which the baby's body was found from a discarded well located some distance from its home.

The baby's post-mortem was performed at Kannur Medical College Hospital where it was proved that the baby had been thrown into the well. Sharada, who had been on a visit to her parental home at Puttur, was questioned by personnel of Badiadka police station. During her questioning, Sharada reportedly confessed that she herself had tossed the baby into the well. She is said to have revealed to the police that the baby was killed on account of family quarrel.

Initially it was suspected that the baby would have accidentally fallen into the well. However, the post-mortem proved that it was purposefully thrown into the well. Sharada, her relatives said, exhibits the symptoms of mental problems and she also was getting treatment for this problem.

The accused was presented before the judge of the court at Kasargod, upon which she was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

I agree with you on this one, Mr. Jossey. She is nothing but a heartless devil, mental issue and family quarrel is not a excuse for killing her own baby.

Jossey S,Mumbai, why do you say that?Everyone is not a pretty woman.
Athough she has done a biggest mistake of her life or a woman ever done ,we shouldnt comment about her prettiness..God knows what made her to do so.Let God decide about it.She is now already from judical side got her punishment. One is not aware how a person is reacting when in mental disorder.I know it .and she looks exactly a picture of it.Second she will not get her son even now she repents.Thats the punishment she will have till end of her life.many women get postnatal depression after delivery that takes long time or never gets healed.Thats exactly by her must have happened.

Very good comment and well written by you Rita.....

As the saying goes 'looks are deceptive', we do not exactly her mental condition and what made her to throw her own baby into the well. I do not know whether she realizes this.. It's always wrong on our part to judge somebody for their mistakes and without knowing his/her, we come to a conclusion and giving our judgement.
