Udupi, Jan 6: The baby showers for Gauri, a cow who was provided shelter at Hosabelaku ashram, Manipal was performed by Udupi district Nagarika Samiti Trust and Hosabelaku Seva Trust here on Wednesday. The rare celebration showed love for cows.
Gauri was given a bath and brought to the stage by means of a walker. The cow was decorated and draped with a green coloured saree. She was offered rice, coconut and other delicacies. She was fed sprouted spices and preparations of its liking. Five elderly ladies offered Arati to her.
The cow without claimants was seriously injured in an accident and was lying helplessly near the office of Rajatadri district administration, Manipal twenty days ago. Udupi district Nagarika Samiti activists rescued the cow after the matter was brought to their notice by local autorickshaw drivers and provided shelter to it at Hosa Belaku ashram. The ashram convener, Vinaychandra provided treatment and looked after the cow. The cow that could not walk due to injuries was helped to walk with the help of a mechanical walker specially prepared for animals. The cow which was loved by ahram mates was named Gauri.
Nagarika committee convener, Nithyananda Olakadu, members K Balagangadhar Rao, Taranath Mesta Shirur, Hosabelaku ashram convener Tanula Tarun, Vinaychandra Acharya and Mandovi autorickshaw stand drivers were present.
Sridhar Bhat provided snacks. Vishnu, Ashok Pai, Sushila Rao Udupi and Harikrishna Rao Sagri cooperated.
