Mangaluru, Jan 7: Karnataka minister of mines and geology C C Patil visited Pandikatta, the area of mining activities in Balepuni gram panchayat limits here on Wednesday and conducted an inspection.
He obtained details from deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra Kumar regarding mining and illegal mud transport allegations.
The deputy commissioner said that in the rural area illegal mining has been discontinued. “There are allegations of transport of large quantities of mud after obtaining permission to level small areas. Legal action is being taken in this connection and investigations are in progress,” he said.
Minister C C Patil speaking later said that problems in Uttara Kannada, Bidar, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada relating to mining have increased. “It is necessary to take action in just manner and proceed,” he said.
Mangaluru subdivision officer Madan Mohan, tahsildar Guruprasad, mines and geology department in-charge deputy director Niranjan, mines and geology department engineer Sushma, Balepuni gram panchayat PDO Sunil, Konaje station PSI Yogishwaran and others were present.
