Udupi, Jan 7: “Congress party has performed well in the recent gram panchayat elections at the centre, state, districts and taluks in difficult times even in places where Congress does not have a presence. Congress has answered BJP in the form of victories. The work of our activists has made it possible. The victory of Congress with limited resources has given moral strength to it,” said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake. He addressed a programme held by the rural Congress committee to congratulate the candidates who won and those who participated in the recent panchayat elections.
“Let us make use of the achievement effectively and unite to face the upcoming district panchayat and taluk panchyat elections. Let us work with the aim of serving the constituency and the people. Our party considers candidates who won and contested in the elections as panchayat members. The candidates who failed now may win next time. Let us alert the young force in the party for the new beginning,” he said.
“Gram panchayat elections are the elections of the activists. The foundation of the party will be strong only when we face it with confidence. Udyavar rural Congress committee has become successful in that endeavour. Let us take it forward using the pro-people policies of our party,” said Kaup zone block president Pravin Shetty Korangrapady.
The former minister draped shawls and garlanded all the 30 candidates who contested the elections.
Rural Congress committee former president, Udyavar Nagesh Kumar gave an introductory address earlier.
Committee president, Girish Kumar thanked those who cooperated in the elections and advised the 13 candidates who won the elections to unite and participate in the panchayat administration by being sincere to the village and the party.
Senior leader Ramesh Kumar welcomed and compered the programme. Chief secretary Royce Mervin Fernandes rendered a vote of thanks.
