Mangaluru, Jan 9: The court has granted bail to the accused in the murder attempt case on member of state Haj committee with regards to gram panchayat elections.
Mohammed Hanif, BJP activist and member of Haj committee, had intended to contest from Manjanady village in the gram panchayat elections. Accused Abdul Kareem and Hyder Ali, who got irate because of Mohammed Hanif's contention, called him home and attached with soda bottles. Hanif who received severe injuries on head was admitted to the hospital.
As the incident took place when the gram panchayat elections were round the corner, it took a political turn also. Konaje police, who went to arrest the accused also faced resistance from Abdul Kareem, for which an additional case of obstruction for duty was slapped on him.
The inquiry of the case was held in the fourth additional district court on Friday, January 8. The court granted bail to the accused. Lawyers Asif Baikady and Mohammed Asghar presented the argument in the court on behalf of accused Abdul Kareem and Hyder Ali respectively.
