Udupi, Jan 15: “Congress party has secured more than 42% votes in the recent gram panchayat elections which is a better achievement than the last panchayat elections. Rural committees will be formed from now stressing on party unity and preparations for the next district panchayat elections will begin,” said district Congress party president, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor. He addressed a district Congress committee meeting held at Congress Bhavan here.
“The government has raised the prices of fuel, oil and cooking gas when the people are facing hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic. Besides that, the proposal to increase electricity charges and the decision to increase property tax are condemnable. The government's decision to impose a tax on vacant land is unjustifiable. Fleecing ordinary people is the only achievement of the governments at the center and the state,” he said.
Former minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake said that there are plans to train the Congress-supported candidates who have won and lost in the recent panchayat elections. “A programme to create awareness on party principles for them and an activist’s conference in view of the upcoming district panchayat elections should be held,” he suggested.
Rural block presidents were provided with suggestions and advice about forming rural committees. Various committees were handed over responsibilities to hold party programmes.
Congress party chief secretary B Kushal Shetty expressed homage to those who passed away recently after serving the party. Local party activists were present.
Chief secretary, Harish Kini welcomed the gathering. Annayya Sherigar rendered the vote of thanks. Spokesperson Bhasker Rao Kidiyoor compered the programme.
