Kundapur, Jan 16: “Lack of will power is the cause of non-completion of national highway works. BJP representatives have strong confidence that voters will not leave their hands for whatever work they do. Therefore, the national highway work has remained incomplete,” said block Congress president Hariprasad Shetty Canmukky.
“The highway authorities have given another deadline that the flyover work will be completed before March but there are no indications of finishing the work within the time limit. The roads in Kundapur town have remained untouched. Local people and traders from Basrur Moorukai till Vinayaka have to spend their time in the dust for the last four months. The assurances by the National Highway officials, district administration, MP and MLAs have become false. The indifference by MP Shobha Karandlaje is the cause. The work that is progressing at a snail’s pace should pick up speed. The work should be completed within the time frame. Congress party will stage mass protests otherwise,” he said.
“The pedestrians are forgotten in the four-lane road in Kundapur. The vehicles depend on narrow lanes. There is no space for pedestrians. Slabs have opened up at some places. Petty shops have occupied the footpaths at some places. Therefore, pedestrians are inevitably made to walk on service roads. It is risky for elderly persons and children,” he said.
“The negligence by the MP despite so many irregularities at the sub-division centre and the national highway is condemnable. Instead of holding namesake meetings about national highways once in two or three months, let them show dedication,” he said.
