Kasargod, Jan 19: In swift political developments which happened in the municipality here, two Muslim League members resigned from their positions. This development also gave rise to differences within the Muslim League.
During the election held for the post of the chairpersons of the standing committees on Monday January 18, a BJP councillor got elected as the chairperson of a standing committee. This development has come as an embarrassment for the ruling party. Agitated at this development, two councillors have resigned from their posts.
Mammu Chal and Asma Muhammed, who have resigned as councillors, have said that the BJP could bag the post because of the defective handling of the issue by Muslim League leaders. In the election held to the post of the chairperson of the standing committee on education, Mammu Chal and BJP's Rajani polled three votes each. When the issue was decided by the draw of lots, Rajani proved lucky.
BJP has got the post of the standing committee chairperson for the first time after nearly 25 years. Muslim League councillors who have resigned, said that the attitude of the party leaders helped the BJP to grow. They also said that the party leaders should have sought tjhe support of the councillors who fought and won as Muslim League's rebel candidates, in which case, the BJP would not have bagged the seat.
