Udupi, Jan 21: Advanced Multi-Light Technology Endoscopy (LCI) and Daycare Services were inaugurated at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on Thursday by Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE, Manipal. This is the first of its kind of endoscope in this region
Dr P L N G Rao pro-vice-chancellor of MAHE Manipal, Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, KMC dean, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, C G Muthana, chief operating officer of Kasturba Hospital, Dr Shiran Shetty, professor and head of the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Balu Mahendran regional sales manager of Fujifilm India Pvt Ltd were present.
Inaugurating the advanced endoscope Dr Ballal said, "World-class service is now available at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal at an affordable cost. The new technology will help our doctors to identify the rare disease and provide the best in care treatment for the patients. He also congratulated the team for starting daycare services which will help the patients in reducing the time taken for the treatment."
Dr P L N G Rao and Dr Sharat Kumar Rao extended their wishes for starting the advanced endoscope and daycare endoscope services.
In his overview, Dr Shiran Shetty said, “The department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology provides complete care to the digestive system. The diseases affecting the digestive system including the esophagus, stomach, large and small intestine, rectum, liver, gall bladder and pancreas and gastrointestinal diseases including malignancy. Today, the inauguration of the new high definition, multi-light, LCI technology endoscope, enteroscopy, and duodenoscope is the first of its kind in this part of Karnataka. This new technology will help to detect early lesions like cancer, polyp, ulcer, pylori infection compared to previous technology. This image enhanced endoscope can identify lesions without biopsy which will be beneficial. The small bowel enteroscopy helps to identify and treat diseases of the small intestine like ulcers, bleed, polyp and stricture. This newer technology will be beneficial for coastal Karnataka and rural areas and will be cost-effective compared to bigger cities."
Dr Avinash Shetty, the medical superintendent said, "We are starting the day-care endoscopic services including therapeutic procedures which enables the patient to receive treatment without being admitted to the hospital. Many complex procedures like endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, colonoscopic, and upper GI endoscopic therapeutic procedures are being done on a daycare basis. Patients can come directly to our scope suite and get discharged by evening. This will benefit many people who can avail endoscopic services as needed on a day-care basis and will be cost-effective."
