Recoveries continue to outnumber new coronavirus cases in Karnataka


Bengaluru, Jan 22 (IANS): With 815 discharged in a day, recoveries outnumbered 674 new Covid-19 cases in Karnataka, said the state health bulletin on Thursday.

"Recoveries rose to 9,14,492 with 815 patients discharged in the last 24 hours, while 674 new cases on Wednesday increased the state's Covid tally to 9,34,252, including 7,554 active cases," said the bulletin here.

Only 2, including one each from Bengaluru and Dharwad succumbed to the infection during the day, taking the state's death toll to 12,187 since the pandemic broke in early March.

In Bengaluru, 371 fresh cases were registered on Wednesday, taking its Covid tally to 3,96,140, including 4,997 active cases, while recoveries increased to 3,86,769, with 509 discharged during the day.

Of the 171 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) across the state, 74 are in Bengaluru hospitals, 12 in Mandya and 11 in Kalauragi district in the state's northern region.

Out of 88,855 tests conducted on Thursday, 7,156 were through rapid antigen detection and 81,659 through RT-PCR method.

Positivity rate for the day was 0.75 per cent and case fatality rate was 0.29 per cent across the southern state on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 14,108 healthcare warriors were vaccinated during the day across the day, accounting for 43 per cent of the 32,773 targetted beneficiaries.

With 164 of the 200 registered warriors taking the shot, Mandya achieved 82 per cent of the target, followed by Dharwad where 75 per cent or 286 of the 381 targetted received the dose.

In Bengaluru, only 35 per cent or 3,942 of the targetted 11,167 took the vaccine.

In Chamarajanagar, 34 of the 190 targetted were vaccinated, accounting for 18 per cent, which is the lowest in the state, followed by Gadag where 42 of the 200 registered warriors received the dose, accounting for 21 per cent of the target.

Till Wednesday, 1,17,407 took the jab against 2,04,039 registered beneficiaries, accounting for 58 per cent of the target since January 16.
