New Delhi, Jan 22: A person from Hubballi wearing a PPE kit that is normally worn as a shield against coronavirus infection, was able to steal 25 kg gold ornaments worth about Rs 13 crore from a jewellery shop at New Delhi. The police succeeded in cracking a case within a day. Muhammed Sheikh Noor (25) of Hubballi has been arrested.

It is learnt that Noor used to work in an electronics shop located near the jewellery shop from where he stole the ornaments.

The jewellery shop is housed in a three-storied building. It has five watchmen but surprisingly the theft came to light only after the owner opened the door the next morning.

Noor scaled a building near the jewellery shop and crossed over to the building where the shop is located, by crossing over from one to the other. He sliced through a portion of the building with a gas cutter, and went in at around 9.30 pm. He was there till 3.50 am and stuffed his bag with ornaments kept for sale in all the three floors and escaped through an auto rickshaw nearby. All the activities including how he went into the building, stole and went by a three-wheeler, were captured by different CCTV cameras. Based on them, the police arrested Noor.
